Has the Black and Decker Home Cafe improved as a single serve coffee maker?
With the improvements they made for the Black and Decker Home Cafe GT300, the question we should ask ourselves is, "Have they really improved their single serve coffee maker and addressed the complaints of the old one?"
I would have to say yes as they improved the old version called the Black and Decker HCC100, which had problems like a plastic taste to the coffee, hard to open pod chamber and had questions to sturdiness quality.
The pod chamber for the Black and Decker GT300 is much improved as it is easier to open and insert your coffee pods. There were a lot of complaints regarding the coffee pod chamber of the old one as it regularly jammed.
Although the newer model also has problems with its new push down mechanism, you won't experience that much problem with it. It's quite a cool feature too.
A good thing about the Black and Decker Home Cafe GT300 is that it can hold larger or specialty coffee pods because it has a single coffee pod holder, a double coffee pod holder, and the specialty pod holder which is used for cappuccino pods.
It can also brew tea pods and size 62 mm coffee pods. Only a few single serve coffee makers can take the 62 mm coffee pod.
Because of this you can choose 7, 9, and 14 oz settings and with its removal drip tray you can fit larger mugs and medium height travel mugs.
It also has a nice design but there are times when it looks out of this world that it reminds me of it being part of an Alien VS Predator series. I'm quite serious on that one. But the design still works for me.
As for ease of use, it is quite easy to use this Black and Decker Home Cafe as it uses coffee pods. You simply remove the water reservoir from the back of the unit, fill it with water, open the new and improved coffee pod chamber unit and insert your coffee pod of choice. In less than a minute you'll be getting your coffee.
Some things they didn't improve on...
Just like the HCC100, there are still a lot of complaints regarding the plastic taste to the coffee that the Black and Decker Home Cafe GT300 makes.
I don't understand why they can't improve on this if other single serve coffee maker companies can. Maybe they should consider changing plastic suppliers or even have it outsourced in another company.
This is something that hinders the growth of Black and Decker Home Cafe in the single serve coffee area.
Although they improved their quality there are still minor sturdiness issues. This comes from it being majority being made out of plastic.

Conclusions:
There have been mixed reviews ever since they launched the Black and Decker Home Cafe and I think the complaints are valid especially when it came to its quality.
On top of that, there are still a lot of people complaining about the plastic taste even after cleaning the coffee pod maker many times. It may sound like a cliche, but at the end of the day (or should we say at the start of the day), the taste of the coffee that your coffee makers produces is what matters.
Single serve coffee makers make it very convenient for you to make a great cup of coffee but if the taste is sacrificed too much, I'm sorry but this just won't work for me. This should be the same for you too.
Looking at Amazon.com user reviews for the Black and Decker Home Cafe GT300 in early 2010, it's interesting to see that out of the 102 who reviewed this one 30 gave it a 5-star while 32 gave it a 1-star. It looks like it's a love it or hate it type of coffee machine.
If you're looking for a single serve coffee maker for your coffee pods, I suggest you go with a Senseo Single Serve Gourmet Coffee Machine. But if you really want a Black and Decker brand, you can try something they're known for - their Black and Decker Spacemaker coffee maker. You should be fine with that especially for a small counter in your kitchen.
