Is getting the right coffee brewing temperature that important?

Home > How-to-make-coffee > Coffee-Brewing-Temperature

Yes, the coffee brewing temperature can make or break the taste of your coffee.

Having bad coffee in the morning could actually "break" your whole day so let's make sure that we do coffee the right way and that includes getting the right temperature. So what's the best or the right temp?

The best coffee brewing temperature is at 200 degrees Fahrenheit but it would be hard to get this exactly right if you don't have a thermostat.

Luckily, a lot of drip coffee makers/ brewers offer you an option to what degree you want your coffee to be.

Yes, 200 degrees Fahrenheit is the best but a lot would agree that anywhere between 195-205 degrees Fahrenheit will be okay.

Now, if you're using a french press and there's no way in knowing the temperature, just remove the kettle with boiling water from the heat and let it rest for thirty seconds before pouring it again.

What happens if you have a different brewing temperature?

If you have a low temperature, it makes your coffee under extracted and very weak since it causes flavor compounds not to dissolve properly.

When the temperature is too high, your coffee becomes over extracted and results in a bitter beverage since the flavor of the coffee has changed.

You should also remember that you may leave your coffee at 185° F for no more than 20 minutes or it will break down and begin to taste bitter. And don't leave your coffee to cool unless you plan an iced coffee drink or just like it that way.
