What is this?

Coffee Pods

Coffee pods, or pads, are perfect for you if you're always on the go and want the convenience and speed of a single serve coffee maker.

Is that a flying saucer in my coffee maker?? No!

So what exactly are they? What's in it for me if I buy them over other coffee makers?

They are a single serving of 7-10 grams of pre-packaged ground coffee inside their own filter, ready in about 30 seconds. Imagine coffee in a tea bag since it's basically modeled after them. They're one of several single serve coffee options available in the market.

They're mostly known for its convenience, ease of use and its no mess cleanup. They also give us premium gourmet coffee in the comfort of our homes.

How easy and convenient are they?

With how fast life can be for people working or on the go, it just right to find a coffee maker that would suit their need without all the trouble and worry of waiting and cleaning thoroughly after.

This is why getting a coffee pod system works for them. If you like this simple process, then it might just be for you too.

Fill the coffee maker with water, insert the pod (flavor of your choice), press the brew button and in less than a minute you'll be drinking a frothy and smooth single serve coffee drink.

It's that easy and as a bonus it looks sleak and stylish - something your friends would envy.

With its spill-proof packaging or bag, coffee lovers can enjoy their favorite coffee anytime of the day without worrying about the mess afterward. Just throw the leftover bag in the trash can and wash the receptacle in your dishwasher or sink.

Any downside?

The downside to this is that this may be more expensive compared with your other ground coffee unless you hardly have any wasted coffee in a pot through a drip coffee maker. By having this type of single serve coffee you are paying for the convenience and the hassle free procedure they and its coffee pod brewers provide. If its convenience you really want, then you'll be getting it with this system.

Can they fit in all of the pod coffee makers?

With it being produced by different manufacturers, no universal standards have been set yet for their size. They can range in size from 55mm to 62mm and weigh anywhere from 8g to 12g and most of them can be used in almost any pod machine but there are some who aren't and are best used in their specific machine.

Coffee Pod Reviews

When the coffee pod system was first launched by Senseo in the Netherlands in February 2001, other coffee companies saw the opportunity in this system and tried to make their own kind.

In spite applying for a patent, Senseo was ruled by the Belgian judge assigned to this case that the other coffee vendors were allowed to produce and market their own that fit the Senseo. Soon after this ruling in 2004, more companies started making them to fit Senseo's system.

Now, there are more than 10 brands. Do check out our coffee pod reviews for them:

Flavored and Decaf Pods

Each brand has its own special coffee roast and provide us with different flavors like French Vanilla, Creme Brulee, Hazelnut Waltz and more. For those, who don't want that extra buzz, they also provide a decaffeinated blend.

Whatever flavor you choose, whenever you want it, remember that there is a flavor to make your palate happy.

Tassimo and T-Discs

What does it mean? T-Disc, their own version of a coffee pod, is the abbreviation for Tassimo Disc. The patented T DISCs are designed to work exclusively with the Tassimo brewer and you won't be able to use the usual coffee pods made by other brands in any of the Tassimo brewers.

What we thought as just a craze when it was first launched certainly isn't anymore as it's already part of our homes. The demand of this kind of coffee maker is steadily increasing and if you don't have coffee pod system in your house, then it might be time to consider getting one. Be the first among your friends to have one!
