What is espresso?

Before creating your own espresso based drink, why not learn more about what espresso is through this link. (Opens in a new window)

Cappuccino

2 to 2.5 oz hot espresso (double shot)
2.5 oz frothed milk
2.5 oz steamed milk

Remember that a cappuccino has equal parts so if you will vary, keep it close to 1/3 per part. Place the espresso in your mug then add steamed milk, then the frothed milk on top. Popular spices to add to your cappuccino are chocolate or cinnamon powder. Hazelnut or vanilla syrup can also be added.

Caffe Macchiato

2 to 2.5 oz hot espresso (double shot)
Dallop of frothed milk

The ratio for the espresso to milk is usually 80:20. Normally this drink is served in a demitasse cup since it is only a shot of espresso topped with a small amount of frothed milk.

Caffe Breva

2 to 2.5 oz hot espresso (double shot)
3 oz Half and Half, steamed3 oz Half and Half, frothed

Place the espresso in your mug then add the steamed Half and Half, then the frothed Half and Half on top. It will only be a Breva if you use Half & Half. It may be hard to froth a Half & Half, it takes practice but you can do it.

Caffee Au lait

2 to 2.5 oz Drip coffee
6 oz steamed milk

Make sure to use Drip coffee instead of espresso for this drink. Pour coffee into mug followed by the steamed milk. Stir and enjoy.
