Single serve coffee is all about single cup coffee makers, coffee pods, k-cups, t-disc and its accessories.
Single serve coffee or what others call as single cup coffee has been a hit for the past number of years because of the fast paced life we're living in.
With lots of deadlines and meetings, there are times when we are too busy to enjoy the whole process of grinding coffee beans and brewing a cup. By having single cup coffee, brewing coffee has been convenient, hassle-free and virtually mess free.
Another reason why this type of coffee maker has been in so many homes lately is that when we brew coffee, we sometimes brew more than what we consume.
Thus, there are a lot of wastage in coffee grounds and yes, money. And just like any other problem, coffee companies saw an opportunity here and created coffee makers.
Thanks to a little competition between these coffee manufacturing companies, we have three main types of single serve coffee: Keurig K-Cups brewers, Tassimo Coffee system, Coffee Pod brewers.
K-Cup Brewers
Kuerig K-cups are portion packs that are used in Keurig single serve coffee cup brewing system. Their coffee brewers have been dominating Amazon's top 5 list for quite some time now and looks to stay there as they make excellent tasting coffee, tea and more. (Learn more about K-Cups)
Here's a coffee video of the Keurig Special Edition Single-Cup Brewer:
This coffee system uses the Tassimo Disc (T Disc), which is designed to work exclusively with this type of coffee maker only. Each T Disc contains a precisely measured amount of coffee, tea, chocolate or concentrated milk, and is sealed to protect the precious flavors inside.
Every T Disc contains a unique bar code that instantly tells the TASSIMO system precisely how to prepare your hot beverages. The system then expertly adjusts to the optimal brewing time, temperature, and amount of water needed.(Learn more about the T Disc)
Here's a short Tassimo advertisement:
Coffee Pod Brewers
These take coffee pods, which are a single serving of pre-packaged ground coffee inside their own filter and look like coffee in a larger tea bag since it's modeled after them.
There are many models for the coffee pod brewers, which makes this the most flexible among the single serve coffee makers. They're the most complicated, though, as not only coffee pods fit all the manufacturing brands.
When it comes to choosing a coffee pod brewer, the most popular machines are made by Senseo, Melitta, Invernto Bunn My Café and Black & Decker.
Couldn't find a clearer version for this Senseo coffee brewer commercial, but this is still funny.
Reasons why you you should consider a single serve coffee maker:
If you are always on the go and don't have that much time to brew coffee.
If you are looking for convenience while still enjoying a great cup of coffee.
If you are the type who don't want to clean up that much after brewing your coffee.
If you are fascinated by these new technologies of just inserting your T Disc, coffee pod or K-cup then just wait awhile and you have your coffee. (Actually it's really exciting!)
If you make coffee and most of the time your make too much that you just have to throw it away. (Never reheat coffee)
If you said yes to at least three of the conditions above, then maybe it's time for you to consider getting your own coffee maker.
Under those three types of coffee makers mentioned above you will find different gourmet coffee brands. Although there aren't many of them compared with the traditional coffee beans yet, the number of choices that you have is sufficient enough and they've been growing through the years.
As for the argument that this is more expensive than grinding your own beans and brewing them. I strongly disagree with that and would answer with an "it depends."
Let me explain, comparing it side by side and price by price would have an obvious answer that grinding your own beans is much cheaper. But if you are wasting time with the whole process and aren't enjoying it anymore then you aren't getting your money's worth.
To add to that, when we waste coffee because we make too much of them in one brew then it will be more costly for us in the long run.
If you have been doing this then the single cup coffee machines are calling you. Take a look at them and see how exciting shopping for one is.
