With the many types of coffee drinks in the coffee shops, what's your drink of choice?

Home > Types-Of-Coffee > Types-Of-Coffee-Drinks

The types of coffee drinks you see are mostly the hot, the iced and the frozen coffee drinks but there are more..

Seeing the different types of coffee drinks once we enter a coffee shop can be sometimes intimidating. We usually settle for regular coffee, but there's a whole new world of coffee in that shop.

Looking at their menu, we can see that there's more than the hot coffee drinks you've been ordering for the past year or so.

Their coffee drinks may be categorized in terms of temperature, coffee vs espresso, hot or iced coffee drinks, Milk or coffee based, and even frozen coffee drinks which are getting popular lately especially with Starbucks' Frappuccino, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf's Ice Blended and Seattle's Best Coffee's Javanilla Shake.

There are just too many types of coffee drinks out there and our job at coffeetickle.com is to make sure you don't miss out on any of the coffee drinks just because by the time it's your turn to order you're forced to make up your mind and end up ordering their coffee of the day.

We wouldn't want that to happen again so here's a list of the many types of coffee drinks, hot and cold.

Café Américano: Also called Caffè Americano or simply Americano consists of a single or double-shot of espresso combined with up to five ounces of hot water in a two-demitasse cup.

This is a very popular drink in the United States of America and one must remember that the Americano is made by adding water to the already extracted espresso where it destroys the crema.

Espresso: This is a method of brewing coffee by forcing hot water (not boiling) at high pressure through finely ground coffee. What is espresso?

Espresso Macchiato: An espresso shot with foamed milk. Coffee to milk ratio is usually 4:1.

Espresso con Panna: A shot of espresso with whipped cream on top.

Caffe Latte: A family drink in Italy that's made in the morning where it's about 1 part espresso to 4 parts steamed milk but in America it's 1 part coffee to 4 or up to 8 parts milk, where one or more of the parts of the milk being foam. In Italy, they don't put foamed milk unlike in the US.

Flat White: Flat White is an espresso-based drink that originated in New Zealand. It is espresso with milk. It is like making a latte, but pouring less milk and having less micro-foam on top, around 1/4 inch.

Cafe Breve: A cappuccino made with half & half milk, instead of whole milk.

Cappuccino: Among the different types of coffee drinks, meet the king of Italian espresso. It is an espresso-based drink made by 1/3 espresso, 1/3 steamed milk and 1/3 foamed milk. Some coffee shops may sprinkle it with cinnamon or chocolate flakes on top.

Caffe Mocha: This sweet drink is just your regular caffe latte or cappuccino mixed with chocolate syrup.

Cafe au Lait: This is a French breakfast drink which is made up of 1/3 strong brewed coffee and 2/3 scalded or steamed milk.

Irish Coffee: One of the alcoholic and hot coffee drinks. Not only is it a hot drink but with the alcohol it is best for those cold days. It is coffee made with Irish whiskey and cream on top.

Lungo: This is an extra long pull allowing approximately twice as much water through the same amount of coffee unlike what is used for a single shot.

Ristretto: Also called a "corto" and is a "restricted" coffee where it is more concentrated than a traditional espresso shot. Less water is allowed through the coffee grounds and is the purest form as it only produces 0.5 to 0.75 ounces of coffee in around 25 seconds extraction time.

Vietnamese style coffee: One of the very interesting iced coffee drinks that is strong and sweet. It is done by letting boiling water drip through the metal filter after it passes the coffee grounds for about 5 minutes then adding condensed milk and ice after.
